Instructions

Making the Granny Squares (Make 12 of Each Color A, B, and C)

Notes:

  • Ch 3 at beginning of round counts as a dc.
  • Ch 6 at beginning of rounds counts as dc and ch-3 space.
  • Join all rounds with a sl st to the 3rd ch of the ch-6 unless otherwise stated.

Granny Square Pattern

  1. Foundation:
    • With Color 1, ch 4, join with a sl st to the first ch to form a ring.
  2. Round 1:
    • (RS) Ch 6, (3 dc, ch 3) 3 times in ring, 2 dc in ring. Join.
  3. Round 2:
    • Sl st into ch-3 sp, ch 6, 3 dc in same ch-3 sp.
    • Ch 1, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch-3 sp. Repeat 3 more times.
    • Ch 1, 2 dc in first ch-3 sp. Join.
  4. Round 3:
    • Sl st into ch-3 sp, ch 6, 3 dc in same ch-3 sp.
    • Ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch-3 sp.
    • Repeat 3 more times, then finish with Ch 1, 3 dc in last ch-1 sp, ch 1, 2 dc in first ch-3 sp. Join.
  5. Rounds 4 & 5:
    • Sl st into ch-3 sp, ch 6, 3 dc in same ch-3 sp.
    • (Ch 1, 3 dc) in each ch-1 sp to next ch-3 sp. Ch 1, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch-3 sp.
    • Repeat around, ending with 2 dc in first ch-3 sp. Join.
  6. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Joining the Squares

  1. Lay out the motifs in a 12 x 3 grid (3 motifs per row, 12 rows total).
  2. Join motifs using Flat Slip Stitch Join:
    • Hold two motifs with RS facing up.
    • Using Contrast D, slip stitch through back loops only, keeping yarn on WS for a seamless look.
    • Continue joining all motifs into horizontal strips, then join strips together.

Adding the Fringe

  1. Cut 16″ [40.5 cm] strands of yarn in Contrast D.
