Materials:

  • Yarn:
    • Light brown (crust) – worsted weight
    • Cream or off-white (bread inside) – worsted weight
    • Soft yellow (butter) – worsted weight
  • Hook: 3.5mm (E) crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Polyfill stuffing
  • Stitch marker (optional)

Abbreviations (U.S. Terms)

  • MR – Magic Ring
  • SC – Single Crochet
  • INC – Increase (2 SC in the same stitch)
  • DEC – Decrease (single crochet 2 together)
  • BLO – Back Loop Only
  • FLO – Front Loop Only
  • SL ST – Slip Stitch
  • CH – Chain
  • FO – Fasten Off

Bread Slice Pattern

Front & Back of the Bread (Make 2)

Using cream or off-white yarn:

  1. MR, 6 SC (6)
  2. INC in each stitch (12)
  3. (SC, INC) around (18)
  4. (2 SC, INC) around (24)
  5. (3 SC, INC) around (30)
  6. (4 SC, INC) around (36)
  7. (5 SC, INC) around (42)
  8. SC around (42) for 5 more rounds
  9. FO, weave in ends

Make a second identical piece but do NOT fasten off.

Crust (Side of the Bread)

Using light brown yarn:

  1. Attach yarn to the edge of one bread piece
  2. CH 1, SC around the entire edge (approx. 80 stitches)
  3. SC around for 8-10 more rows to form the thickness of the bread
  4. When the strip reaches the size of the bread, SL ST to join both pieces together
  5. Stuff the bread firmly before closing
  6. FO, weave in ends

Butter Slice Pattern

Butter Square (Make 1)

Using soft yellow yarn:

  1. CH 6
  2. SC in 2nd CH from hook and across (5)
  3. CH 1, turn. SC across (5) – Repeat for 5 rows total
  4. FO, weave in ends

Optional: Lightly stuff the butter piece for a plump look or keep it flat for a melted effect.


Assembly

  • Sew or glue the butter piece onto the bread slice.
  • Adjust stuffing if needed to keep a soft, plush shape.
  • Add face embroidery or details if desired.
