Beginner Simple Scarf

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn in three colors (Color A: Pink, Color B: Olive Green, Color C: Beige)
  • Crochet hook size H/5.0 mm
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends

Abbreviations:

  • ch: chain
  • dc: double crochet
  • sc: single crochet
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • st(s): stitch(es)
  • rep: repeat
  • sp: space

Pattern:

Note: The scarf is worked in the round, joining at the end of each round.

  1. Foundation Chain:
    • With Color A, ch 120. (You can adjust the length by chaining more or fewer stitches, just ensure it’s a multiple of 4 for the pattern to work.)
    • Join with a sl st to the first ch to form a ring, being careful not to twist.
  2. Round 1:
    • Ch 3 (counts as a dc here and throughout), dc in each ch around.
    • Join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3.
  3. Round 2:
    • Ch 3, skip 1 st, dc in the next st, ch 1, dc in the skipped st (cross stitch made).
    • Rep from * to * around.
    • Join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3.
  4. Round 3:
    • Ch 3, dc in ch-1 sp from the previous round, dc in the skipped st from the previous round.
    • Rep from * to * around.
    • Join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3.
  5. Round 4:
    • Switch to Color B, ch 3, skip 1 st, dc in the next st, ch 1, dc in the skipped st (cross stitch made).
    • Rep from * to * around.
    • Join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3.
  6. Round 5:
    • Ch 3, dc in ch-1 sp from the previous round, dc in the skipped st from the previous round.
    • Rep from * to * around.
    • Join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3.
  7. Round 6-7:
    • Switch to Color C, rep Round 4-5.
  8. Round 8-12:
    • Alternate between Color A, B, and C, rep Round 2-3 until desired width is reached.
  9. Finishing:
    • Fasten off and weave in all ends using a yarn needle.

Note: You can customize the scarf by adjusting the number of rounds or switching up the color pattern.
